     Director of the Research Center for the Americas, UC Santa Cruz
     Associate Professor, Latin American and Latino Studies, UC Santa Cruz

In addition to being the Director of the RCA and an Associate Professor, Dr. Falcón is the producer and host of weekly news and public affairs program called Voces Críticas/Critical Voices. The show has been on the air since January 2017. She has found the experience to be enormously rewarding professionally because she can merge her steadfast commitment to social justice with her skills as an educator and researcher to produce shows that offer informed and scholarly discussions about pressing social issues. Click HERE to read why she the show started.

     KZSC Advisor, UC Santa Cruz

     Dr. Rozendal reports on science, medicine, and people from Santa Cruz, California—as Advisor to KZSC 88.1 FM, located on the campus of UC Santa Cruz. He studied journalism at UBC Vancouver, science communication at UC Santa Cruz, and social and political psychology at UC Santa Barbara and Rice University. He has produced award-winning reporting for the Santa Cruz Sentinel, Vancouver Sun, CBC News-Vancouver, Big Picture Science, the Canadian Journalism Project, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the National Academy of Sciences. He is the former News Director at KCSB-FM in Santa Barbara.


jdavilas headshot     Juan C. Dávila, Chancellor’s Graduate Student Intern and Researcher

     Latin American and Latino Studies

     Juan Dávila is a bilingual (Spanish/English) journalist, documentary filmmaker, and Ph.D. student at UC Santa Cruz. He created the CLRC’s/RCA's 2017 promotional video. His work focuses on environmental movements, job insecurity and the millennial generation. He has directed two feature documentary films: Compañeros de lucha (2012) and Vieques: una batalla inconclusa (2016). He currently works as a correspondent for Democracy Now!  As the award recipient of the Chancellor’s Graduate Student Internship Program, Juan is a key project partner due to his extensive media and teaching experience.

     Film and Digital Media and History of Africa and the Americas

     Daniel Martinez is a fourth-year undergraduate student at UCSC studying for their BAs in Film and Digital Media and History of Africa and the Americas. They first drew an interest to public radio in their childhood from an overexposure to NPR’s Morning Edition on morning drives to school. They are currently the Talk and News Director at KZSC 88.1FM Santa Cruz and after graduation, they hope to start a a graduate program in media and cultural studies or work for a major podcast studio in Los Angeles or Bay Area. They also think speaking with their local community is an important way to be a conduit for change in one's community.
