Marielle Franco was an Afro-Brazilian, LGBT, socialist councilwoman and human rights activist from the city of Rio de Janeiro, who was brutally murdered a year ago. Marielle’s activism earned her powerful enemies, and the still ongoing police investigations indicate that Rio’s militiamen are responsible for Marielle’s death. However, the crime has not yet been solved. Events will be taking place across the Americas and all over the world to mark the first anniversary of Marielle’s death.
Grupo Re-Existir invites you to participate in a demonstration to demand justice for Marielle Franco on Saturday, March 16 2019, 1 pm - 3 pm, in downtown Santa Cruz, Pacific Av. (in front of O’Neill’s surf shop). Featuring an Afro-Brazilian dance performance by the group “Sementes."
